Mr. Toshiyuki Shiga, 57, Chief Operating Officer of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, has been appointed as the new chairman of JAMA. His chairmanship began in May 2010.

Mr. Shiga graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Osaka Prefecture University, and joined Nissan Motor Co. Ltd in 1976. He became Manager of the Asia and Oceania Operation Division in 1990. After which he was assigned as General Manager of the Nissan Jakarta Office. Since then, he has spent six years in Jakarta building up his reputation within the ASEAN region. He returned to Japan in 1997, where he took on various positions. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in April 2000 before becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2005.

In his inauguration speech, Mr. Shiga expressed his wish to lead Japan�fs automobile industry, and to continue the industry�fs contribution to the Japanese economy by producing the world�fs best vehicles with top-notch technology and quality. Mr. Shiga also highlighted that JAMA will increase efforts to support traffic safety and environment protection, as well as international cooperation in promoting automobile trading. Hence, creating a more conducive driving environment under his tenure.
