The floods which ravaged the East Coast and Northern Peninsular of Malaysia from Dec 2014 to Jan 2015, were the worst floods in decades, causing tens of thousands of people to be displaced and more than 20 lives to be lost.

As a responsible corporate citizen in Malaysia, Perodua collaborated with Majilis Keselamatan Negara (MKN)1, providing immediate cash assistance as well as much needed emergency supplies such as food, fresh water and manpower to assist with the clean-up work.

Perodua CSR activity – Donate to flood victims in Malaysia

In December 2014, Perodua contributed RM400,000 to flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. However, due to the extent of the emergency and huge damage caused by floods, Perodua extended its cash aid by an additional RM225,000. Thus bringing the total amount contributed to RM625,000.

Aside from cash donations, Perodua sent 100 members of its own staff to help with clean-up efforts in affected areas and assisted local authorities by distributing necessary goods such as blankets, foods and fresh water.

Some victims had their vehicles damaged by water. So In order to reduce their financial burden, Perodua offered assistance in the form of discounts on selected parts and free inspections to determine the amount of damage to the vehicle.

"Our customers matter most to us. These value added services are provided to help relieve some of their burden during this disaster," said Perodua President & CEO, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.

On the assistance given, Datuk Aminar said that Perodua will reimburse towing service fees up to a maximum of RM100 to the nearest Perodua service outlet. There are 176 Perodua service outlets nationwide.

On top of that, Perodua also offered 20% off selected genuine parts to Perodua owners whose vehicles were damaged by the floods. Parts included all electronic items, carpet, vehicle seats, door trims and engine overhaul gasket.

Being a good corporate citizen through its CSR activities, such as above, Perodua will continue its commitment to its customers, but other victims too. Looking ahead, Perodua is expanding their CSR and will contribute even more to Malaysian society in the near future.
