JAMA fully supports the Commission’s intentions to restructure and harmonise motor vehicle and fuel taxes in
In relation to the Commission’s intention to introduce a new vehicle taxation scheme, JAMA is concerned that the introduction of such measure must not create any new distortions or cause confusion within the vehicle market and for consumers. In addition, JAMA is of the opinion that the overall level of tax should not be increased as a result of the restructuring and harmonisation initiative.
JAMA would like to provide its support to the Commission and remain an active participant in any further consultation and discussions taking place ahead of the finalisation of the proposal.

In the absence of clear, positive and objective justification for amending Directive 98/71, JAMA believes that DG Internal market should not adopt such a proposal.
