EU-Japan Business Round Table calls for an early and comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

At its 15th annual meeting in Paris in April, the EU-Japan Business Round Table (BRT) issued a series of recommendations to European and Japanese leaders for their negotiations on an Economic Partnership Agreement/Free Trade Agreement.  The BRT advocates an early conclusion of negotiations and ratification of the EPA/FTA, which should stimulate economic growth, employment and investment in and between the EU and Japan. The negotiations should be undertaken in a transparent manner and take into account the BRT’s recommendations concerning, inter alia, customs tariffs (eg, EU tariffs on cars) and non-tariff barriers including certain Japanese vehicle-related regulations; public procurement; intellectual property rights; and uniform interpretation of the EU REACH chemicals regulation, while also ensuring that electric vehicle charging standards in Europe facilitate an open market.

Coming this autumn: The 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

The Tokyo Motor Show returns to Tokyo’s Big Sight waterfront venue this November for its 43rd edition.   Drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors, the show provides a platform for both Japanese and international automobile and automobile parts manufacturers to exhibit their latest products.   "Compete! And shape a new future" is this year’s theme, reflecting the organiser’s view that automobiles and motorcycles as well as the technologies they embody are the outcome of competition that seeks to astonish and delight consumers around the world.
