Amid its ongoing efforts to rebuild and recover from the devastation caused by the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Japan also faces multiple pressing matters demanding prompt and effective action, including excessively high yen appreciation, a deflationary economy, a social security system in need of revamping, and diplomatic issues requiring resolution.

Citizens and corporate enterprises in Japan are struggling to cope with this highly challenging environment, making every possible effort to overcome the difficulties facing them in order to carry on and progress.

JAMA members hope that Japan’s new administration, soon to take over the reins of government as a result of the Lower House election on December 16, will demonstrate the understanding, leadership and initiative that are required, in terms of policy formulation and implementation, to build a society whose concerns are addressed and whose efforts are rewarded.
