July 29, 2003
Overseas vehicle production by Japanese automakers in the first quarter
of 2003 totalled 2,039,063 units, an increase of 13.0% over the same
quarter the previous year. This is explained primarily by expanded
overseas production in the Asian and European markets.
Results for fiscal 2002 (April 2002 - March 2003) were also up from
the previous year, rising 16.2% to 7,886,843 units, owing likewise
to expanded local production in Asian, North American and European
markets.
