Japanese Automakers’ 2008 Overseas Production Statistics
[1st Quarter 2008 & Yearly Cumulative of Fiscal 2007]

Overseas vehicle production by Japanese automakers in the first quarter of 2008 totalled 3,135,981 units, an increase of 7.8% over the same quarter the previous year. This is explained primarily by expanded overseas production in the Asian and European markets.

Results for the total of fiscal year 2007 (April 2007-March 2008) were also up from the previous year, rising 8.3% to 12,083,832 units, owing likewise to expanded local production in the Asian and European markets.

Notes:

  • The figures reflect the use of a new method, adopted as of January 2007, for computing overseas unit production.
  • The “Change from previous year” percentage figures were calculated by dividing the figures (obtained using the new computation method) by the previous year’s figures for the same period (obtained using the former method).
