Automobile Production Data for April 2004

Automobile production in April 2004 was recorded as 849,081 units. Compared with the 774,261 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is an increase of 74,820 units or 9.7%, and production up on the same month of the previous year for three consecutive months.

Exports (result) stood at 100.8% as compared with the same month of the previous year.

The production total for the period from January 2004 through April 2004 stood at 3,619,243 units, up 145,559 units or 4.2% as compared with the production total of 3,473,684 units recorded in the same period of the previous year.

Motorcycle Production Data for April 2004

Motorcycle production in April 2004 was recorded as 128,423 units. This is 15,521 units or 10.8% down as compared with the 143,944 total registered in the same month of the previous year. It is also production down on the same month of the previous year for fifteen consecutive months.

The April production figures by class of motorcycle and the corresponding levels for the same month a year ago are as follows:

Automobile export in April 2004 was recorded as 402,037 units, up 3,337 units or 0.8% as compared with 398,700 units recorded for the same month of the previous year. It is an export increase on the same month of the previous year for two consecutive months.

Value of automobiles exported
The total value of automobiles exported was $9,104.86 million including $6,667.56 million for vehicles and $2,437.30 million for parts. This is an increase of $765.30 million or 9.2% compared with $8,339.56 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.

Number of motorcycles exported
Motorcycle export in April 2004 was recorded as 106,700 units, up 5,516 units or 5.5% as compared with 101,184 units recorded for the same month of the previous year. It is also an export increase on the same month of the previous year after two months' downturn.

Value of motorcycles exported
The total value of motorcycles exported for April 2004 was $584.24 million including $450.79 million for vehicles and $133.45 million for parts. This is an increase of $56.37 million or 10.7% compared with $527.87 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.
