Automobile Production Data for May 2004

Automobile production in May 2004 was recorded as 755,746 units. Compared with the 786,343 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is a decrease of 30,597 units or 3.9%, and production down on the same month of the previous year after four months of upturn.

Exports (result) stood at 111.5% as compared with the same month of the previous year.

The production total for the period from January 2004 through May 2004 stood at 4,373,144 units, up 113,117 units or 2.7% as compared with the production total of 4,260,027 units recorded in the same period of the previous year.

Motorcycle Production Data for May 2004

Motorcycle production in May 2004 was recorded as 112,745 units. This is 3,658 units or 3.1% down as compared with the 116,403 total registered in the same month of the previous year. It is also production down on the same month of the previous year for sixteen consecutive months.

The May production figures by class of motorcycle and the corresponding levels for the same month a year ago are as follows:

Automobile export in May 2004 was recorded as 378,488 units, up 39,067 units or 11.5% as compared with 339,421 units recorded for the same month of the previous year. It is an export increase on the same month of the previous year for three consecutive months.

Value of automobiles exported
The total value of automobiles exported was $8,256.00 million including $6,285.36 million for vehicles and $1,970.64 million for parts. This is an increase of $1,178.53 million or 16.7% compared with $7,077.47 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.

Motorcycle export in May 2004 was recorded as 72,464 units, down 1,181 units or 1.6% as compared with 73,645 units recorded for the same month of the previous year. It is an export decrease on the same month of the previous year after two months of upturn.

Value of motorcycles exported
The total value of motorcycles exported for May 2004 was $376.71 million including $249.20 million for vehicles and $127.51 million for parts. This is an increase of $8.69 million or 2.4% compared with $368.02 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.
